CONCEPT + DESIGN STRATEGY
Inspired by the themes of invisibility and disconnectedness within the song, we proposed a yearbook spread concept for the cover. This visual metaphor captures the essence of high school interactions, from playful teasing to profound alienation. Amidst the scribbles and name-calling, the absence of Ariel's photo stands as a stark representation of his feelings of non-existence.
DESIGN EXECUTION
Our final design renders the yearbook concept with high fidelity, showcasing student photos embellished with doodles and playful remarks. However, a poignant detail disrupts this lively scene - Ariel's picture is missing, a stark reminder of his feelings of invisibility and alienation, bringing the song's narrative to visual life.
OUTCOME
Listeners appreciated the cover art's successful translation of the song's introspective theme. The visual dichotomy between the lively, doodled yearbook and the absence of Ariel's photo provided a compelling depiction of the song's central theme of existential crisis amidst high school life. The depth and relatability added to Ariel's narrative significantly enhanced the listeners' experience.
